Best Day To Buy Southwest Tickets

I know obviously with Southwest the best thing to do is book ahead and if it drops get the difference back in points or Travel Funds. But for me mostly I only take these trips because I see such a huge price drop, and would not otherwise take the trips. I always travel with 2 more "Adults" (we pay for an adult for our child because Southwest's "child fare" is always more than Wanna Get Away) so paying 1/3 the price is a big difference for us.
Example: trips to Florida for spring break. (frequently no wanna get away for sale) The airline prices tickets high because it thinks it can sell them for that price. If, over time, tickets don't sell as fast as it expects, the airline will drop prices.
Even in the case of @dfwskier 's advice that the pricing is probably not the best it will be when the schedule is just released, you can still buy tickets then and re-price them if the cost does come down although you'll have the shortest amount of time to re-use travel funds this way if you are six months out.
The best time to buy is right now, as tickets are the cheapest they have ever been (but are slowly increasing back to normal-ish levels as demand increases). Aside from that, whenever Southwest has a sale is always a good time to buy
Tired of shelling out lots of dollars on booking flight tickets? Well, you have come to the right place. Dreaming about traveling seems interesting, but in reality, planning a trip is a difficult task. A lot of factors are included in air travel, which needs to be taken into consideration. Planning a trip is one hell of a task, but with Southwest Airlines, you can do it without hitting hard on your wallet. Staying on your budget is very important to enjoy your vacation to the maximum. Use the Southwest Airlines book a flight option to buy tickets easily.
The best time can vary, but 3 PM eastern time is generally considered the best to buy low fares tickets. Opt for Tuesday at 3 PM to book tickets at minimal fares. Moreover, customers can set fare alerts because sometimes the airline releases a list of deals out of nowhere. Be ready to fetch those deals and save on your travel expenses.
The best tip to save on Southwest Airlines tickets and reservations would be to book in advance. Be as early as possible and have a budget-friendly trip. The airline releases its flight schedules a few months in advance, so go ahead and book at the earliest.
Instead, research by Expedia shows the ideal day to book a flight is Sunday. For domestic flights, you can get the best airfare by booking at the end of the weekend. Doing so can save you around 5%. For international flights, the savings are nearly 10%.
Looking for the best time to buy tickets to Europe or other international locations? Book a summer trip. Expedia data shows that August is the cheapest warm-weather month to fly, with average ticket prices nearly 10% lower compared with July. Tickets are also cheaper in August than during the December rush.
In cases like these, the best card for your purchase will be a new card with a minimum spending requirement for a welcome bonus or using a credit card optimized for everyday purchases. Some of the best cards for that include:

I really appreciate how the AwardWallet team takes time to do the math on these for me and list the catch 22s. I would have thought that this might have been a good deal to get some Southwest points, but it is pretty clear that it is better for me to hold onto my $s instead of exchanging for southwest points. Thank you for the post.
wow so it seems like their points program isnt the best. seems like proper investigation needs to be done before buying points. this is a very good post and i will hold off on buying points with them.

Business Select and Anytime tickets offer a more generous cancellation policy than Wanna Get Away/Wanna Get Away plus tickets, but these tickets are more expensive. Senior fares also come with the same lax cancellation policy.
If you cancel a Business Select, Anytime, or Senior ticket, 100% of your purchase price will be refunded to your original form of payment. This applies to both cash and Rapid Rewards points tickets.
3. Then, you will be able to confirm the flight you are canceling and select how you want your refund. If your ticket was fully refundable, you will have the option of requesting a refund or holding it as a flight credit for future use. If the ticket was non-refundable (Wanna Get Away tickets), you will be able to request flight credits for future use.
I purchased 5 wanna get away tickets for two adults and three minor grandchildren. The event was canceled due to COVID19 outbreak so I need to cancel flights. My question is will the reusable vouchers be issued in the minor children name or revert to the adults. The children are ages 14, 11 and 7. Thank you.
Southwest is now giving less than 25% credit back if you cancel a non-refundable flight in a timely manner. Do not buy tickets from southwest and expect to get anything back, even in credit, if you cancel.
If you see a flight and price you like, I would buy it right away. If I had done so, I would have got a better price rather than watching like a hawk for a couple months. But do iy right away. Not 12 hours after released, the hour they are released. You have 24 hours to think about it either way. The prices fluctuate a ton those first two days. I could have snagged an $87 one way, but I hesitated for like 5 hours and that same flight was up at $300 something. I still ended up with good flights and prices buying 4 months out, but the best were right away. Good luck!
So I recommend, buy the tickets for the flight you want at a price you can live with. Then check in on the website regularly to see if lower priced seats are available. Pay special attention to emails you may get from Southwest announcing sales & possible follow a travel blog that would typically post articles when fares sales are going on.
Booking an airline flight is a gamble. You never know what the price might be a few days or months down the line, and it's hard to know if you're booking the lowest possible rate. Should you book now? Hold off a few days? A few months? It can be a stressful process, especially when buying tickets for an entire family.
My No. 1 tip for all Southwest travelers is to check all upcoming Southwest flight prices as part of your morning routine. Southwest flight prices change quite often, and there is no reason you shouldn't get the best price available. The process is extremely simple, and it could ultimately save you hundreds of dollars (or the equivalent amount in points) with hardly any extra effort.

A trip to the Big Island almost always starts with a long flight to the state of Hawaii of at least 5 hours. The price of that flight contributes a significant amount to the total costs of your vacation, and knowing how to find the best flight will give you the peace of mind that you made the right choice once you pick a flight.
The cheapest time to fly to Hawaii is during low season. Tickets to Hawaii are in general more expensive in high season and during major holidays like i.e. thanksgiving and Christmas/new year. If you have the luxury to plan your vacation in those months where demand for tickets is down, you should definitely try to do so.
